Shopping

From edgy emerging designer styles to drool-worthy vintage pieces, there’s a wealth of hipster-friendly shopping to enjoy in the Eternal City. Head to Campo de Fiori, one of Rome’s best loved open-air market to browse local crafts, homewares and fresh fruit and veg galore. Grab a juice and soak up the atmosphere, it’s great for people watching.

For boho fashion make a bee-line to the Rioni Monti district where you’ll find the super-cool vintage store Pifebo, and a multitude of fellow hipsters digging through its racks of alternative gems.

Another hipster fashion must-do is the Mercato Monti, Rome’s coolest urban market, bustling with up-and-coming designers, unique finds a young, creative crowd and DJ spun tunes blaring out across the stalls. Located in the trendy historical Monti area, you’ll find lots of great hangs to stop in for an espresso and a bite to eat while you’re visiting.

Sight-seeing

Although hipsters like to hang off the beaten track, you simply can’t come to Rome without also visiting some of the majestic sights that make it the Eternal City. Take yourself on a walking tour (or even a Vespa tour!) of Rome and hit up some of the bigger sights, you won’t be disappointed. The Pantheon is free to visit, and the architecture will blow your mind.

The Vatican Museums should also sit firmly on your sight-seeing list, with so much history and mystery, they're sure to enthrall. Stop in to see St Peters Basilica, and be mesmerised by it’s renaissance beauty and sheer size.

When it is time to get off the beaten track a bit more, visit the grave of legendary English Romantic poet John Keats at the Protestant cemetery in Testaccio, bearing the epitaph “This Grave / contains all that was Mortal / of a / Young English Poet / Who / on his Death Bed, in the Bitterness of his Heart / at the Malicious Power of his Enemies / Desired / these Words to be / engraven on his Tomb Stone: / Here lies One / Whose Name was writ in Water. 24 February 1821"

Eating and Drinking

When it comes to eating and drinking, you’ll be completely spoilt in Rome. For some edgy hipster eats hit up these favourite spots:

The Fish Market

Simple and delicious fish recipes in a simple yet bustling setting. The wine flows freely and it makes a nice change from the carb-loading pizza and pasta dishes.

Gelatria dei Gracchi

One of Roma’s most delicious and popular gelato shops, with fresh ingredients and seasonal specials.

La Casa Del Caffè Tazza D’oro

Dating back to the 1940’s, this widely celebrated coffee house serves up delicious concoctions including the famed granita ice coffee with layers of whipped cream.

Baylon Cafe / Cocktail Bar

For cocktails and a great place to start the night out, this super cool bar is located in the Trastevere area of Rome where you’ll find lots of cheap eats, people hanging out drinking on the historic streets, and live music.

La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali

Head back to Monti to visit this relaxed and down-to-earth restaurant, which specialises in Italian faves such as pan fried scallops and putanesca pasta. The walls are lined with pictures of the stars who have eaten here through the years, so you’ll be in good company.

Pizzeria Alle Carette

Also located in hipster favourite Monti, this old school wood-fired pizzeria will really hit the spot, with mouth-watering classic pizzas in a chirpy and laid back setting.
