After the festive season, a time of serious overindulgence over Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Eve, a parent’s thoughts can easily stray to that elusive goal of detox in the new year.

If only, you think, I could visit one of those strict clinics, where Germanic experts bark self-improving orders at me, and – as I’m on holiday – I would have the time and space to follow their prescriptions for a better me?

Would the circles under my eyes disappear? Might my frown lines turn happy? Wouldn’t it be grand – just for a few days, anyhow – not to be the one in charge?

Alas, such fantasies are quickly quashed with this sobering reminder: I’ll need someone to look after the kids. Not notorious for their patience or zen, children don’t seem a natural fit with a detoxifying, rejuvenating spa holiday.

And yet, more and more spas and hotels are realising that, while parents want to relax, they may not want – or be able to – outsource the children for the weekend or week it would take to really unwind. Thankfully, this has inspired a slew of top-notch spas to offer quality childcare.

You can now have your facial and eat with the kids, too.

Here are a few ideas for your detox-with-child holidays in 2016:

Princesa Yaiza, Lanzarote, Canary Islands

The five-star Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort is offering a three-day detox package, which combines yoga, daily spa treatments and thalassotherapy in a program designed for those who are feeling run.

It promises to heal body and mind, while also tackling fluid retention and cellulite. What fun!
