The accommodation
Get ready to discover the coastal highlights of Aotearoa New Zealand's far north on this 7-day adventure. In partnership with Warner Bros and Mojang Studios to celebrate the release of "A Minecraft Movie", New Zealand has created a world-first destination DLC (downloadable content) for Minecraft. But why stop at crafting in-game when you can experience real-world activities like learning about local Māori history and explore otherworldly landscapes from towering kauri forests to endless golden-sand beaches.
Day 1 Auckland.Begin your journey in Auckland, a city where urban cityscapes meet natural beauty. Nestled between two harbours and framed by volcanic peaks, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is the perfect introduction to New Zealand's diverse landscapes and cultures.
Start your day by immersing yourself in the city's abundant arts scene, visiting museums and exploring boutique galleries hidden amongst neighbourhoods. For a taste of the city's diverse flavours, grab a coffee from a local roastery-owned cafe, browse a farmers' market, or savour fresh kai moana (seafood) at Wynyard Quarter.
For those eager to escape the bustling city and see Auckland from the sea, hop on a ferry to Waiheke Island, where vineyards, golden beaches and walking trails await. Or chase the sunset at one of Auckland's rugged West Coast black sand beaches.
If panoramic city views are calling, hike up Maungawhau (Mount Eden), just a stone's throw from the CBD, and afterwards, explore Dominion Road's legendary eateries where you'll find one of the largest concentrations of international food in the city. Or head to the waterfront area of Britomart for all-day dining at kingi where the focus is on fresh seafood.
Stay 1 night in Auckland.

Day 2 to 3 Auckland to Paihia (255km).
Set off on a scenic three-hour drive to Northland - the region's long summers and mild winters, coupled with close proximity to Auckland attract travellers year-round. Be sure to take your time and discover unexpected treasures along the way. Stop in the charming coastal town of Waipu to stretch your legs on the Coastal Walkway, explore glowworm-lit limestone boulders or grab a bite at the iconic Pizza Barn.
When you arrive in Paihia, you'll be welcomed by subtropical warmth and stunning coastal scenery. Paihia is an adventure-lover's paradise, drenched in historic significance, so there really is something for everyone.
For water-based adventures, embark on a high-speed boat trip to the famous Hole in the Rock, go sailing through the pristine bays or hire a kayak or paddleboard and explore hidden coves. If relaxation is more your speed, take a ferry to Kororāreka Russell, New Zealand's first European settlement, and sip a drink or have a meal at the Duke of Marlborough, the country's oldest licensed hotel.
While in Paihia, visit the historic area of Waitangi and learn about the signing of New Zealand's founding document, Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi), which marks the beginning of New Zealand as a nation. A must for anyone nearby!
Stay 2 nights in Paihia.

Day 4 Paihia to Mangōnui (75km).
Your North Island adventure carries on to Mangōnui, a historic fishing village with friendly cafes and a wide range of water-based activities.
Settle into a waterfront eatery or bar and watch pods of dolphins and potentially orcas in the harbour. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, you could head out on a fishing charter to try your luck at catching snapper or kingfish.
If you're a wine lover, take a short drive to New Zealand's northernmost winery, where you can enjoy a wine tasting in a serene vineyard setting. For an authentic taste of the region, don't leave without sampling the famous fish and chips from the Mangōnui Fish Shop - it's a Northland institution and classic Kiwi dinner.
Stay 1 night in Mangōnui.
Day 5 to 6 Mangōnui to Hokianga (119km).Venture west to the Hokianga, an area rich in Māori, Chinese, and European history, famed for its dramatic coastal landscapes and untouched wilderness. This region is perfect for slowing down and soaking in the natural beauty.
Discover the stunning Waipoua Forest, home to Tāne Mahuta, New Zealand's largest living kauri tree. Standing proud at over 50 metres tall and estimated to be more than 2,000 years old, this majestic giant is a sacred taonga (treasure).
Thrill-seekers should take a boat across the harbour to the giant sand dunes of Te Paki and go sandboarding down their towering slopes. If you prefer something more tranquil, hire a kayak and paddle along the gentle waters of the Hokianga Harbour or take a scenic horse trek along the beach at sunset.
Cafes and restaurants in this region are known for their friendly hospitality and stunning views - grab a seat by the water and enjoy fresh local produce while soaking in the laid-back atmosphere.
Stay 2 nights in Hokianga.

Day 7 Hokianga to Auckland (301km).
