Pack a picnic lunch and stop about halfway at Eighty Mile Beach, where you will witness an endless stretch of white sand and turquoise waters. As you arrive into Port Hedland head to your accommodation to rest for the night.

Port Hedland is a bustling port, home to ships and trains, as well as a great base for ocean-based activities and has a rich history. You can go fishing and crabbing or when in season, whale watching or get a glimpse of the baby turtles making their maiden voyage. History lovers should embark on the award-winning Cultural and Heritage Trail, which maps out the early times of European settlement, or visit the local museums.

If you are travelling between March to October, you can witness the Staircase to the Moon, a natural phenomenon where the full moon rises over the exposed mudflats at extremely low tide creating an optical illusion of stairs reaching to the moon. You can also see this from Roebuck Bay in Broome.
