Day 1 ChristchurchBegin your South Island adventure in Christchurch, the gateway to the Canterbury region with a blend of historic and modern architecture and natural attractions on its doorstep. Check into your hotel and spend the afternoon exploring the vibrant city centre.
Take a stroll through the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, enjoy a peaceful punt ride along the Avon River or visit the central city museum to discover the region's rich cultural heritage. In the evening, explore the city's rich dining scene at Riverside Market or ROCA, whose menus are inspired by the flavours of the Mediterranean.

Day 2 Christchurch to Oamaru (248km)
Continue your journey to Oamaru, a town rich in history and proud of its heritage. Check into your hotel before exploring Oamaru's beautifully preserved Victorian precinct where heritage buildings now house art galleries, stores and steampunk attractions.
In the evening, head to the coastline to catch a glimpse of the little koror? (blue penguins) as they return to shore. Oamaru is also known for its budding cheese and craft beer scene, so indulge in a tasting experience before turning in for the night.

Day 3 - 4 Oamaru to Dunedin (113km)
Travel south to Otepoti Dunedin, a city that blends Scottish heritage with dramatic coastal landscapes. Check into your hotel and spend the day exploring the city's historic architecture including Larnach Castle and the University of Otago's grand buildings.
Venture onto the Otago Peninsula, where scenic coastal walks and wildlife encounters await. Spot albatross, fur seals, and other marine life along the rugged shoreline. If time allows, visit Baldwin Street, the world's steepest residential road, before enjoying a cosy evening in one of Dunedin's charming eateries or pubs such as Salt which offers great food, friendly service and both indoor and outdoor seating.

Day 5 - 6 Dunedin to Te Anau (287 km)
Drive inland to Te Anau, the gateway to Fiordland National Park. Check into your hotel and take a leisurely lakeside walk before spending the spending enjoying a meal at La Toscana which serves up Italian comfort food from pizza to pasta.
Take a day trip to Milford Sound where towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls and pristine fiords make for an unforgettable experience. Cruise through the fiord's serene waters and keep an eye out for seals, dolphins, and penguins.

Day 7 - 9 Te Anau to Queenstown (171km)Drive north to T?huna Queenstown, a town on the edge of Lake Whakatipu and backdropped by the spectacular Southern Alps. Check into your hotel and stroll through the town centre, where shops and restaurants offer a mix of local and international flavours. Flame Bar & Grill is a local favourite for steaks and ribs.
Over the next two days, experience Queenstown's famous activities. For relaxation, book a session at the Japanese inspired Onsen Hot Pools, where private cedar-lined hot tubs provide stunning views of the Shotover River. If adventure is on the agenda, choose from bungy jumping, jet boating or skydiving.
A day trip to Arrowtown offers a glimpse into the region's gold-mining past, while wine lovers can explore the renowned vineyards of the region, known for producing world-class Pinot Noir. Or sip on a glass of wine over a long lunch at The Woolshed at the multi-venue Ayrburn.
When it's time to leave, make your way back to Queenstown airport to return your hire car and depart home or continue your journey to explore more of what New Zealand has to offer.

Day 10 - 11 Queenstown to Lake Tekapo (256km)
Depart Queenstown and travel to Lake Tekapo, renowned for its stunning turquoise waters and unparalleled night skies. Check into your accommodation and explore the lakefront, stopping by the famous Church of the Good Shepherd for a photo opportunity.
Hike up Mount John for panoramic views of the Mackenzie Basin or unwind at Tekapo Springs, soaking in hot pools while admiring the alpine scenery. At night, join a guided stargazing experience under the pristine skies of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, one of the world's best locations for spotting celestial objects.
End the day at Dark Sky Diner for lakefront dining which fuses modern New Zealand flavours with traditional Maori fare.
Stay 2 nights in Lake Tekapo.
Day 12 - 13 Lake Tekapo to Christchurch (226km)Today you will travel from Lake Tekapo to Christchurch. Along the way, you can make a brief stop at Rakaia Gorge to enjoy the stunning river views, or at Ashburton for a quick break
The Christchurch Botanic Gardens offers a peaceful spot to relax, while the Canterbury Museum provides insight into the region's history and culture. For shopping and dining, visit the Re:START Mall, or if you're looking for some beach time, Sumner Beach is just a short drive away.
When it's time to leave, make your way back to Christchurch airport to return your hire car and depart home or continue your journey to explore more of what New Zealand has to offer.
