Highlights

Days 1 - 2 Zurich

You'll start your Swiss adventure in the bustling city of Zurich. Thriving, modern and multicultural, Zurich offers something for everyone - with a diverse food scene, world-class museums and galleries, luxury shopping, historic architecture, and the natural beauty of Lake Zurich and the Limmat river. Sample the best Swiss chocolate and cheeses, or take in a cruise on Lake Zurich.

Day 3 St Gallen.

Today you take on Stage one of the Grand Tour, which travels between Zurich and Appenzell. Passing through the wine county of Zurich, the thundering Rhine Falls, and into the historic city of St Gallen. On the way, take in the small town of Steine am Rhine, the beautiful Lake Constance, and the Abbey of St Gall. While the stage finishes in Appenzell, today you will finish just before Appenzell in St Gallen where you will spend your evening.

Days 4 - 5 St Moritz.

Continue on to finish up stage one in Appenzell, before continuing on to stage two. Stage two features the most records across the whole route - with Werdenberg the smallest town in Europe, Chur the oldest city in Switzerland, and the Salginatobel Bridge - the only world monument in Switzerland. Your journey will also take you to the principality of Liechtenstein, before finishing up in the Alpine town of St Moritz.

Day 6 Lugano.

Stage three of the Grand Tour will take you on a downward descent from the alpine highs of St Moritz (1822m above sea level) to Bellinzona (240m above sea level.) With highlights on the tour including Ruinaulta (the Grand Canyon of Switzerland), the Viamala Gorge, and the Fortress of Bellinzona. Whilst the stage ends in Bellinzona, you will continue on to the town of Lugano to spend your night. Set along the beautiful Lake Lugano, this town is part of the Italian speaking region of Switzerland bringing a touch of Mediterranean charm to the beauty of Switzerland. Fun fact: Lugano was the host of the first ever Eurovision Song Contest.

Days 7 - 8 Zermatt.

Departing from Lugano, you'll head back to Bellinzona before joining Stage Four of the Grand Tour. The fourth stage brings with it one of the most iconic sights in Switzerland - the Matterhorn mountain. One of the most distinctive peaks in Europe, until 2023 you would have spotted this peak on the side of a bar of Toblerone! The town of Zermatt is entirely car free, so whilst Stage Four ends in Zermatt, you will park up and stay in nearby Tasch. A shuttle train runs from Tasch to Zermatt and takes approximately 12 minutes, with shuttles leaving every 20 minutes, so you can easily head into Zermatt to explore before returning to Tasch to spend the night.

Day 9 Lausanne.

Stage five will take you between Tasch and Lausanne, located on the banks of the beautiful Lake Geneva. Surrounded by vineyard covered hills, this is a picturesque medieval town with beautiful architecture, scenic parks and marvellous museums. On the way to Lausanne, key sights include the Chateau de Chillon, the Abbey of Saint Maurice in Valais, and the picturesque alpine village of Grimentz.

Day 10 Neuchatel.

Start with a short drive along stage six, with only 45 miles separating Lausanne and Neuchatel. Whilst this may be a short drive, the area between Lausanne and Neuchatel is famous for its watchmaking traditions. With incredible scenery in the Vallee de Joux and the Jura Vaudois Nature Park, this stage is also a great point to go out walking and hiking.

Days 11 - 12 Bern.

Stage seven will take you past many of the lakes and rivers that Switzerland is known for, with beautiful views and panoramic vistas abound. Spot the 72 waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, take a cable car up the heights of Jungfraujoch, or visit the medieval town of Murten with its picturesque lanes and buildings. Your journey will lead you to the Swiss capital of Bern - a beautiful city located on the river Aare, and whose old town is enscribed as a UNESCO world cultural heritage site.

Day 13 Depart from Zurich airport.

Finishing up the Grand Tour, your final day will take you along Stage 8 from Bern to Zurich. On the way back to Zurich, visit sights such as the moated Hallwyl Castle, the scenic town of Lucerne, and the beautiful nature of Mount Rigi. Your journey will end at Zurich airport where you'll drop off your car, but if you do wish to spend more time in Switzerland - or extend your travels by visiting other parts of Europe - then speak to your travel expert and they can help tailor your holiday for you.
