Sydney to Brisbane – 1 hour 30 minutes

Airlines that fly from Sydney to Brisbane are Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Qantas.

Sydney Airport (SYD) is also known as Mascot Airport or Kingsford Smith Airport, and is located 8km from the city centre. It is the busiest airport in Australia and consists of three terminals, with Terminal 1 the hub for international flights and Terminals 2 and 3 servicing domestic flights. A fast and reliable way to get yourself to the airport – especially during peak times – is the AirportLink train, which departs from Central, Circular Quay, and any of the city stations. Trains run approximately every ten minutes, with the journey taking less than 15 minutes. A one-way ticket is about $19. To use AirportLink, you’ll need to purchase an Opal Card. It’s easy to take a taxi or rideshare service to the airport too, but allow plenty of time if you’re travelling in the peak periods. Read more about Sydney Airport (SYD) transport options.

Brisbane Airport (BNE) is located roughly 14km northeast of the city centre and gives you a number of options for travelling to the city and beyond. It’s well connected by rail, with the Airtrain, which can also take you to the Gold Coast. Brisbane Airport also has three excellent hotels in the immediate vicinity. Read more about Brisbane Airport (BNE), including all the transport alternatives and what you can look forward to at Brisbane Airport hotels, should you decide to take it easy when you arrive.

While Queensland is known for its great climate and remains a beautiful destination any time of year, the weather in Brisbane can sometimes surprise you with its unpredictability. The best time to visit Brisbane will ultimately depend on what you wish to see and do.

Summer

You can expect high temperatures and humidity in Brisbane over the summer months, with temperatures generally reaching between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius. Summer can also bring with it some afternoon/evening thunderstorms, so don’t count on perfect swimming weather every day.

Appropriate clothing: Shorts and short-sleeved shirts

Don’t forget: Sunscreen, a hat, and an umbrella

Autumn

Autumn in Brisbane is usually the most comfortable time of year, with sunny days aplenty as the storm season eases off. While autumn days are generally clear and warm, by May, evening temperatures can drop down to around 12-14 degrees Celsius, so always pack an extra layer to beat the autumn chill!

Appropriate clothing: Shorts and short-sleeved shirts

Don’t forget: A light jacket for cooler evenings

Winter

Brisbane generally experiences mild winters, with low humidity and average daily temperatures of around 21-23 degrees Celsius. The evenings, however, can get quite cool, dropping to around 3-8 degrees. If you’re hitting the town at night in winter, be sure to layer up. August is a great time to visit if you want to avoid the school holiday crowds.

Appropriate clothing: Jeans and a light jacket

Don’t forget: Your warm winter pyjamas!

Spring

With an abundance of sunshine and the purple blooms of Jacaranda trees dotting the streets, spring is lovely in Brisbane. This is also a great time to take a day trip to Moreton Bay and see the whales migrating. The Riverfire Festival takes place in September too, so you’ll have plenty of things to do and see in Brisbane during springtime.

Appropriate clothing: Shorts and short-sleeved shirts

Don’t forget: Your camera to catch Brisbane in full bloom and families of whales migrating
