What’s the best way to get to and from Darwin Airport?
Darwin Airport is located about 13km from the city centre of Darwin. Depending on traffic and time of day, that is around a 15-minute drive. Below you’ll find a guide to travelling to and from Darwin Airport.
Car hire: There are a number of major car hire providers available at Darwin Airport to make your onwards journey a breeze. We can help organise your car hire in advance so it's ready to pick up when you land.
Picking up and dropping off: Darwin Airport has designated pick-up and drop-off areas for passengers. Close to the front of the terminal you’ll find an express lane for quick drop-off, where a 2-minute time limit is enforced. If you need to stay longer than 2 minutes, the Short Stay Car Park offers 10 minutes of free parking. Just take a ticket when you enter and if you leave before 10 minutes is up, your stay is free.
Taxis: Taxis are an easy way to get into Darwin city centre. Fares are metered, and you can expect to pay between $30 and $35 for a taxi into the city. The taxi rank is located directly in front of the terminal.
Rideshare: Rideshare is another way to get to and from Darwin Airport. Uber is available, simply download the app and request your ride after collecting your baggage. The Rideshare pick-up area is located in the Short Stay Car Park.
Shuttle Bus: Another convenient transport option is to book a shuttle bus from Darwin Airport to your hotel. Talk to your Travel Expert for help organising airport transfers before you set off.
Chauffeurs and limousines: A private hire car rank is located at the front of the terminal, and you can negotiate the price with the driver without having a prior booking.
Public transport: The public bus stop is located on Henry Wrigley Drive by the Mercure Darwin Airport Resort. This is approximately a 600m (8-minute) walk from the airport terminal. Buses from here take you to the Casuarina Interchange, where you can switch buses to other parts of Darwin. Be aware that buses currently run on the airport route only six or seven times a day between 6:50am - 5:29pm weekdays and at other times on weekends.
Parking: Darwin Airport offers travellers three car parks to choose from. Each operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Short Stay - The Short Stay Car Park at Darwin Airport is the most convenient, located directly in front of the terminal building. To make drop-off and pick-up easy, this car park is free for the first 10 minutes.
Long Stay Plus - A more economical choice, just a short three-minute walk from the terminal is the Long Stay Plus Car Park.
Long Stay Saver - This is the best option if you’re leaving your car for an extended stay. It’s a six-minute walk from the terminal building, but rates are the lowest of all three car parks.
