Are you ready to discover the otherworldly landscapes of Aotearoa New Zealand's South Island on this 8-day campervan adventure? In partnership with Warner Bros' and Mojang Studios to celebrate the release of "A Minecraft Movie", New Zealand has created a world-first destination DLC (downloadable content) for Minecraft. But why stop at playing in-game when you can experience real-life activities like jetboating through narrow canyons or cruising past cascading waterfalls while spotting unique wildlife.
Day 1 Queenstown or Arrowtown.Begin your adventure in Tāhuna Queenstown, nestled on the shores of Lake Whakatipu and surrounded by the towering peaks of the Southern Alps. Known as the adventure capital of New Zealand, Queenstown offers play opportunities to suit all tastes. After picking up your campervan at Queenstown Airport, take some time to explore the town centre.
Stroll along the lakefront, indulge in delicious kai (food) at one of the many restaurants like Queenstown favourite Flame Bar & Grill for steak and ribs or ride the gondola to Bob's Peak for panoramic views of the region. For those seeking an adrenaline rush, Queenstown is the birthplace of bungy jumping and jet boating. And in the evening, you can book yourself in to enjoy sundown at one of the hot pools.
Just a short 20-minute drive from Queenstown sits Arrowtown, a charming historic gold mining town that transports visitors back in time. The vibrant foliage in autumn makes Arrowtown especially stunning but it is a year-round destination with a tranquil atmosphere and plenty of scenic walks.
Wander through its quaint streets lined with heritage buildings, shops, and eateries. Visit the local museum to learn about the region's rich history or take a stroll along the Arrow River, once teeming with hopeful prospectors during the gold rush.
For a taste of local flavour, visit a cafe in Arrowtown for freshly brewed coffee and homemade treats, head to one of the acclaimed wineries to experience some of the region's finest wines or enjoy an elegant, bistro-style menu at The Woolshed at Ayrburn.
