Best Time to Visit

Malaysia has a tropical, humid climate with temperatures averaging 30 degrees Celsius, though it is cooler in the highland areas. The major change in seasons is marked by the arrival of the monsoons that bring with it heavy downpours on the east coast of Peninsula Malaysia, the northeastern part of Sabah and the western end of Sarawak (from November to February). Boat trips to the islands do not run during the height of the monsoon. The best time to visit Malaysia is between April and October.

There are two peak holiday periods in Malaysia. The first is the main holiday period which extends from Christmas some time into January, depending on the fall of the Chinese New Year. The second is the summer school holiday period which runs from June through till August. Booking in advance is recommended.

If visiting the east coast of the Malaysian Peninsula, try to avoid the rainy season from November to January, especially if you are planning to enjoy the beaches. On the west coast, showers are experienced from October to November, and then from April to May.
